A circular mahogany coaster or bottle stand with a gadrooned edge and three original leather castors underneath for sliding along the table. Bearing the label of “Jas. Mein / Cabinetmaker & Upholsterer / Roxburgh Street / ( Kelso. )”

James Mein was a member of a family of cabinetmakers working in Kelso until the closure of the firm through insolvency in 1854. Work from James Mein (uncle and nephew) was commissioned by the 5th and 6th Dukes of Roxburgh for Floors Castle, and by the Earls of Haddington.
