A late George III longcase clock of small size and veneered in satinwood within tulipwood cross banding. The 8-day musical movement is petite sonnerie - quarter-striking on eight bells and chiming the hour.

The appeal of this clock, for me, is the extreme high quality of the satinwood veneers - the veneer on the door is truly "aflame", pulsating with life - almost moving it is so good.
Over the years, I have never been fond of satinwood; I have never gravitated towards it in collecting.
However, there are those rare occasions when it is too good to pass up! (See, also, the satinwood tea caddy.) One makes exceptions for exceptional things.
