The color and graining of this example is what attracted me to it. The bow-front chest has always been considered the poor relation to the serpentine chest - and, as such, has always been more reasonably priced than those grander examples.. Over the years I have frequently noticed the color and selection of high quality wood has characterized some of the bow-front chests, as with this example. The color is mellow, the graining slightly arresting in its contrasts.
